SFGATE: SFO prepares for slots as more flights crowd in

SFO prepares for slots as more flights crowd in" Published on May 28, 2018 at 04:37PM by Chris McGinnis, Tim Jue It's not your imagination: congestion at San Francisco International Airport is getting worse as waits for gates become more common, airport road traffic slows down, and more passengers and planes than ever crowd in. How can the airport deal with an onslaught like that? Well, after more than a decade of record growth, SFO is preparing for a slot-controlled future which could be implemented in the coming decade. Slot-controls are common at the busiest airports worldwide to limit congestion. At these airports, airlines lease time slots of when they want to take-off and land. The number of slots available is capped — making them pricey and valuable commodities for carriers wishing to serve the busiest airports at the most popular flight times.

Sources: US to hit EU, Canada, Mexico with tariffs" Published on May 31, 2018 at 03:51AM by David J. Lynch and Damian Paletta, The Washington Post WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump plans to announce as soon as Thursday the imposition of sweeping tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union, three people familiar with the plan said. Frustrated over the failure of those U.S. trading partners to agree to a range of demands, the president chose to sharply escalate his global trade war rather than grant further tariff waivers. The import taxes could take effect as soon as Friday. The move is likely to have an immediate impact on global trade in steel and aluminum, particularly between the United States and Canada, the nation's largest source of imported steel.

Trump regrets AG pick; Gowdy rejects spy claim" Published on May 31, 2018 at 12:20AM by Terrence Dopp and Chris Strohm, Bloomberg (Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said he wishes he’d never made Jeff Sessions his attorney general because the former Republican senator recused himself from the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump endorsed remarks Wednesday by House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy about Sessions even as he ignored Gowdy’s strong dismissal of the president’s claim that the FBI planted a “spy” in his campaign. In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Trump approvingly quoted Gowdy’s television appearance criticizing Sessions for removing himself from oversight of the probe that’s now being run by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He said Trump had many other options for the nation’s top law enforcement officer.
