SFGATE: Giants blow three-run lead but beat Padres in 12 innings

Giants blow three-run lead but beat Padres in 12 innings" Published on July 31, 2018 at 11:44AM by By Henry Schulman SAN DIEGO — Still waters really do run deep. Some of Brian Sabean’s biggest trades in his more than two decades helming the front office were not predicted nor even speculated beforehand. So there could be news before Tuesday’s 1 p.m. nonwaiver trade deadline. Or maybe the lack of buzz actually reflects a wait-and-see stance the front office had to take as it waited to see how the team performed out of the break. One game probably will not make a difference, but for what it’s worth, the Giants found a way to win at Petco Park on Monday night, 5-3 in 12 innings, a rare accomplishment. The Giants were 6-14 here since the 2016 All-Star break.

SFGATE: Giants’ Bruce Bochy on Johnny Cueto: ‘strong possibility’ of Tommy John surgery

Giants’ Bruce Bochy on Johnny Cueto: ‘strong possibility’ of Tommy John surgery" Published on July 31, 2018 at 11:13AM by By Henry Schulman SAN DIEGO — The odds were against Johnny Cueto as soon as he decided in May to rehabilitate the sprained ulnar-collateral ligament in his elbow. So many pitchers who go that route find after months of work they need Tommy John surgery anyway. That appears to be Cueto’s sad reality. “There has not been anything determined yet, but it’s fair to say there’s a strong possibility of having surgery,” manager Bruce Bochy said Monday before the Giants played the Padres at Petco Park.

Along with squids, cuttlefish and nautiloids, they are classed as cephalopods. The mouth with its hard beak is at the base of the arms, which trail behind the animal as it swims. Octopuses have a complex nervous system and excellent sight, and are among the most intelligent and behaviourally diverse of all invertebrates. They inhabit all parts of the ocean, from the intertidal zone and coral reefs to the abyssal depths. They can escape from predators by hiding in a cloud of ink, camouflaging themselves, or contorting their bodies to squeeze through narrow gaps. They are all venomous, but only the blue-ringed octopus is known to be deadly to humans. Octopus is sold as food around the world, especially in the Mediterranean and along the

SFGATE: Giants’ Pablo Sandoval triples but strains hamstring sliding into home

Giants’ Pablo Sandoval triples but strains hamstring sliding into home" Published on July 30, 2018 at 08:30AM by By John Shea Pablo Sandoval epitomized the ups and downs of the Giants’ season on a single fifth-inning sequence. Sandoval legged out a two-run, stand-up triple (his first since 2015) and scored on a medium-deep flyball. But he strained his right hamstring on his slide, held his leg walking back to the dugout and will have an MRI exam Monday. Sandoval wasn’t limping in the clubhouse after the game. Asked whether he expects to miss time, he said, “I hope not. I’ll be missing time when (Brandon) Belt comes back.” The Giants already were thin at first base with Belt on the disabled list with a hyperextended right knee.

SFGATE: Buster Posey collects 4 hits in Giants’ skid-busting win

Buster Posey collects 4 hits in Giants’ skid-busting win" Published on July 30, 2018 at 08:02AM by By John Shea A simple and sweet swing might help end a losing streak, but not a team’s woes. Whatever the effect in the long run, it sure felt good Sunday for Buster Posey to barrel up on an inside fastball and smack it to the left-field gap. This has been a trying stretch for the Giants’ catcher, a hip ailment zapping his power, but his three-run double was reminiscent of the old Buster and ignited the struggling Giants to an 8-5 victory over the Brewers at AT&T Park.
