President Trump’s lawyer says Trump was merely expressing his constitutionally protected opinion when he tweeted that porn star Stormy Daniels’ nationally televised description of a hit man, who she said threatened her for describing her alleged affair with Trump, was a phony “con job.” Daniels’ defamation suit against Trump is “nothing more than a public relations move,” and unless it is dismissed, it “could have a chilling effect on political debate throughout the United States forever,” attorney Charles Harder said in a filing this week in federal court in Los Angeles. He said Daniels should have to pay Trump’s attorneys’ fees, under state laws governing meritless suits that seek to suppress free speech.
