Ninety-eight losses one year, a division race the next. The Giants would be cool with that. That’s their hope for the season’s second half, which began Thursday afternoon with a bummer of a 9-8 loss to the Rockies, a game that was decided in the ninth inning when Sam Dyson’s two-seam fastball was clobbered over the left-center fence by DJ LeMahieu. Despite the disturbing ending to an otherwise solid 7-3 homestand, the Giants felt good heading to Arizona to face the first-place Diamondbacks. It’s as good a time as any to cut into a 5½-game deficit. “Any time you play an NL West team, it’s important,” said Giants first baseman Brandon Belt, who hit a first-inning, two-run homer Thursday.
